Mechanical Monsters: Clockworks & Cyborgs for DnD 5E and Pathfinder RPG

Created by Legendary Games

Mechanical Monsters is a softcover bestiary featuring over 140 incredible creatures for DnD 5E or over 100 creatures for Pathfinder RPG born from mad sciencists and magitech, clockworks and cybernetics. Sci-fi elements have been a part of the RPG landscape from its earliest days, infusing fantasy with elements of future tech from far realms beyond the stars, ancient empires with lost technology, or curious artificers and alchemists working together to blend science and sorcery. Mechanical Monsters delivers an incredible collection of these creatures for your campaign!

Latest Updates from Our Project:

Books arriving next week, and Mechanical Monsters & Heroes Quick-Starter final 24 hours!
3 months ago – Wed, Feb 07, 2024 at 07:48:40 PM

Hi all,

Our ship is scheduled to arrive in port next Monday, February 12th! We look forward to receiving them in hand probably 1-2 weeks later, depending on how long customs clearance takes, but we are excited to get your Mechanical Monsters books coming your way!

Our copies of the Alien Bestiary 5E will be coming in our next shipment from the printer. It took some time to rebuild the entire file from the ground up, but it's finalized and in their hands. Our printer is currently shut down for Lunar New Year for the next week or so but will be back at it and ready to move ahead with ozalids and print proofs when they reopen. One benefit of this rebuild process is that it has allowed us to make our layout structure much more efficient, as the original version had a ton of wasted blank space and oversized art placement. The greater skill of the new layout person has allowed us to reduce the page count considerably on the Alien Bestiary but without sacrificing any of the actual content. Every monster, all the stats, all still there and ready for you, but a lot less wasted space!

Last but not least, we wanted to remind you that February 8th is the FINAL DAY of our Mechanical Monsters & Heroes Quick-Starter! If you missed out on any of the books from the original Mechanical Monsters project for 5E or PF1, or if you want to take advantage of new VTT options, or if you want to check out the new Pathfinder Second Edition version of Mechanical Monsters and the companion PF2 Mechanical Heroes book, please check it out and help spread the word in the final 24 hours!

Mechanical Monsters II has launched!
3 months ago – Tue, Jan 16, 2024 at 10:49:40 AM

Hi all,

Thanks so much for your terrific support of the original Mechanical Monsters Quick-Starter! We are looking forward to getting our book delivery next month, with the ship set to hit the port on or around February 12 and then probably a week or two in customs processing before before they deliver them to us. Once we have them in hand, they'll start heading your way!

Meanwhile, we are excited to announce that Mechanical Monsters II has just launched! If there are any items you missed in your original pledge or the cash flow wasn't right at the time, you can still get those items at the original KS prices, PLUS we have expanded VTT options available and new support for Pathfinder Second Edition, as we mentioned in our last update! Check out the new project right here and please spread the word about to your friends and fellow fans!

Mechanical Monsters for Pathfinder RPG and D&D 5E both now on Roll20!
4 months ago – Sat, Dec 23, 2023 at 12:40:19 AM

Hi all,

During our Kickstarter last January, we offered a Roll20 option of Mechanical Monsters 5E, which dozens of you ordered, but at that time we weren't sure on the status of a Pathfinder RPG version. Thanks to our terrific team working hard, you can now get Mechanical Monsters for PF1 on Roll20 too! Head on over to Roll20 and check it out!

We also are churning along with getting a new version of Mechanical Monsters ready for release for Pathfinder Second Edition too, along with Mechanical Heroes, a companion volume of player options like ancestries, archetypes, class options, feats, spells, gear, and more! Mechanical Heroes is already finished in layout and Mechanical Monsters is in progress now, so we'll have both ready for you when the Quick-Starter launches in January! If you missed any 5E or PF1 items on the original Mechanical Monsters Kickstarter, or for new options like the PF1 Roll20 content we mentioned above, this is also a great chance to pick them up or recommend them to your friends and fellow fans!

Thanks for your awesome support of the original Mechanical Monsters and we hope you have a Merry Mecha-Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Hi all,

I just wanted to pass on the happy news that our box of early preview copies arrived today from the printer!

The books look terrific and we are excited to share them with you, so I've gone into our backer spreadsheet and randomly selected six lucky backers to receive these early bird copies! Congratulations to backers Fortin, Laverty, Pardo, Guzman, Hunter, and Clark! I'll be putting your books in the mail on Monday to start heading your way! Our bulk shipment will be arriving early next year, and we'll keep you abreast of developments with estimated arrival dates so we can get them out to all you as soon as we can! Thanks again for your amazing support!

We also are working on preparing the Mechanical Monsters 2 Quick-Starter, which should be ready to launch in either December or January, with an all-new Pathfinder Second Edition version of the Mechanical Monsters bestiary (plus anyone who missed getting the PF1 or 5E versions), plus a bonus book of Cyborgs & Clockworks, chock full of incredible options for mechanical characters! We will let you know as that project gets ready to launch!

We are thankful for all of you and your support and look forward to many awesome projects to come!

Soft proofs arrived from printer! Final proofing pass before the print run!
6 months ago – Fri, Oct 20, 2023 at 08:10:06 PM

Hi all,

I just wanted to update you on the latest in the process moving along. Our printer sent us digital proofs and plotters - essentially a deconstructed version of the book. In past years, this was a low-res printout on inexpensive paper, kind of an inkjet style with some bleed-through on the page. More recent proofs and plotters have become a lot higher quality, much closer to the final product. Along with them, you get a sampling of pages that are literally the digital proofs on glossy stock that appear exactly as they will in the final book.

This is the final stage before we got to the print run, and it's usually a good exercise because you can spot things on paper that your eyes just glide past on the computer screen. We've marked up the final proofing edits for layout and they'll be sending them back Monday to our printer so we can start the presses!

Our other books from this year have been stuck in a massive container traffic jam overseas, which is frustrating, but I suppose the upside is that once these books get printed we can probably get them into the same container shipment as the other books. My storage is going to be an absolute mess when they all arrive, but all the more reason to get them out to you ASAP!

In any case, the books are looking great and we look forward to letting you know when they arrive. We usually get a half-dozen pre-press copies airmailed to us by the printer, and when we get those we can share photos and draw some lucky names from our backer list to get their books early!
